New Beginnings #51

  • Dates- December 8, 2017 to December 10, 2017

New Beginnings is a weekend retreat for teenagers in grades 7-9 led by a team of mostly teenagers, with a few adults, and two clergy spiritual directors. The weekend takes participants through a discovery about ourselves, our friends, our families, our faith, and how to live out our faith in our daily lives.

How might this discovery happen? Through making new friends and sharing with old ones, through singing, skits, talks given by teens, videos, games, worship, and conversation with each other! You are encouraged to bring friends from your church and an adult who will stay through the weekend. Everyone will take an active part in the program. You can go to New Beginnings as many times as you’d like…as long as you’re in grades 7-9. We know once you go, you will want to go back. New Beginnings is a weekend retreat for teenagers in grades 7-9 led by a team of mostly teenagers, with a few adults, and two clergy spiritual directors.

Happening #100

Rector: Graham Hummel

January 12-14, 2018

What is Happening?

Happening is a Christian experience presented by teenagers for teenagers. It is designed for youth in grades 10 – 12 and sponsored by the Episcopal Church. Most young people have serious questions about Jesus and the Church. Happening is designed to address these questions. During a Happening weekend, participants experience the love of Christ as shown through prayer, worship, and the ministry of peers, clergy, and lay adults. The Happeners are encouraged to make their renewed faith a part of their everyday lives. Happening shows how Christianity can keep pace with the many changes in our lives and our world.

Important!!!!!
Scholarships are available upon request. The cost of this event is $100. If you would like to apply for a scholarship to attend Happening #100, do NOT fill out this application. Instead, contact Jody Grant directly with your request at jgrantcg@aol.com

Why do we do this kind of a trip?

The dream of God is of a world transformed, made new, in which humanity lives in relationship, in harmony with itself and with the rest of Creation. Jesus Christ embodies that dream and names it “the Kingdom of God.” He expresses his mission in Luke 4:18-20, saying “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

All of us are called to a ministry of relationship with the whole world. Our hope is that both the participants who travel to the Dominican Republic this summer and those who support them will gain a sense of their place in Creation, a sense of their connection to those whom they may not see on a regular basis, and that they will carry that sense of connection with them through the rest of their lives. A mission trip is not just about the dates of the actual trip. Preparation begins long before, and, more importantly, the effects of the trip are felt long after. We embark on this mission, not because we will change the world during our 8 days in the Dominican Republic this coming summer, but because through that trip we will begin to change ourselves, and begin to bring about the dream God has for us and for all Creation.
