Outreach

  • Barney’s Run-Join us in beautiful South Georgia for the annual running event that raises funds to purchase 1-2 trained service dogs for Georgia veterans affected with PTSD or Traumatic Brain Injury. Enjoy running on any of the four flat, paved USATF certified courses or stroll along the 1-mile fun walk. It takes 100 volunteers to make this event successful. Help change a life, one person at a time.
  • Malone Towers (a downtown subsidized residential building)-a festive Christmas luncheon is prepared by the Men’s Chill & Grill group, the Boy Scouts serve the meal, and volunteers assist attendees as needed and assemble gift bags as party favors for each of the neighbor residents.
  • Ladles of Love-every Thursday (Sept-May) from 8:30 am-12:30 pm, volunteers grocery shop, prepare, cook, and serve lunch to all those who come for a warm meal.
  • St. Clare’s Soup Kitchen-St. Paul’s parishioners staff St. Teresa’s soup kitchen the 2nd Friday of each month (Sep-May), hours are 10:30am-1:00pm.
  • Clothing Room-uniforms, basic clothing, and school supplies are donated and/or purchased from donations and distributed by parishioners at the beginning of each school year to young children identified by the principals/counselors at local schools.
  • Barney’s Corner-holy ground on the church property where pets’ ashes may be scattered during a touching ceremony followed by a reception. Anyone may choose to spread their pets’ ashes in Barney’s Corner.
  • Feed Our Neighbors-once a quarter St. Paul’s parishioners plan, prepare, and serve Sunday dinner at First United Methodist Church (another downtown church) in support of their weekly Sunday evening with neighbors’ outreach.
  • Boy Scouts-an active service-oriented Troop 15 is based at St. Paul’s and this group identifies and responds to needs within the community in various ways including Christmas lunch for Malone residents, building game pits for YMCA, bird houses for a local hospice facility, and benches for an elementary school. They cleaned a facility used by emergency responders during crises, and multiple projects for St. Paul’s.
  • Youth/Community House-one side of the house can be used for youth gatherings and the other side is used primarily for daily (7 days/week) 12-step, 11th-step, AA, and Al-Anon meetings. Anyone in the community is welcomed.

Ministry Support within the church

  • Eucharistic Minister-lay person who feels called to serve the Lord and the church community, and once trained and licensed by the bishop, is authorized to assist during Communion to administer the consecrated elements to the congregation.
  • Eucharistic Visitor-lay person who feels called to serve the Lord and the church community, and once trained and licensed by the bishop, is authorized to take Holy Communion from worship in the church to those shut-ins at home or hospital. The Eucharist Visitor shares Bible readings, prays with those being visited, and administers the Holy Communion.
  • Altar Guild-this group is generally unseen by the congregation during worship. Their work is done before and after each service including weddings, funerals, baptisms, and confirmations. They ensure that the items needed by the clergy for the Eucharist are prepared and placed appropriately so that the service runs smoothly. They make sure the altar is properly prepared based on the event occurring or the season of the year.
  • Flower Ministry-a group of volunteers who create multiple flower arrangements from the altar flowers, and deliver those arrangements to parishioners who are unable to attend church.
  • Feed My People-a group of parishioners who gather quarterly to shop, prepare, and cook various meals to be frozen and then deliver to any church member who may be sick, injured or in need of a homecooked meal.
